⏳ Erebus Growing | 0051 - Don't lose yourself for the sake of others

You are you and you do not need to fit into the box of others

Welcome to Erebus Growing, a weekly email where I share little snippets of life to help you change and grow into your highest life.

I’m heading home today to visit family for the next couple of days over the holiday.

Then it’s back here and focusing on applications for the 9-5 (which I’ll have some exciting information to share about next week), continuing my journaling and weekly email work, and rowing every day!

Plus, as we get ready for another new year, that means adding new challenges to my life to help foster and grow the life I want to live.

This year there are three new items I want to add. I’ve only been adding one new item to my life, but this year I wanted to push myself.

  • A daily social media practice.

  • A daily meditation practice.

  • A daily yoga practice.

I’m not looking to make anything complicated. That’s not worth it to build a new core concept in my life.

I’m keeping it simple with one post per day on Threads and 𝕏, a five-minute meditation, and a five-minute yoga session or a morning and night stretching session (a slight update from my list a couple of weeks ago).

👨🏻‍💻 Meditation

This week will be shorter than usual as I’m traveling home to visit my family for a couple of days.

One of the things that I struggle with the most when visiting home is almost a sense of reversion.

It’s a sense of people-pleasing and playing the past part of you that they knew because you don’t know if they could handle how you’ve changed.

I found a quote, years ago, that has stuck with me although I don’t remember where I picked it up from.

It's a funny thing, coming home. Nothing ever changes, everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what's changed is you.

Unknown

Visiting home is always an interesting melding of worlds.

The life of my family has not changed significantly. Overall, things have changed, but not by much.

But because I am not there continually, I never see them. And they never see me.

And my world now is vastly different from when I left (even after seeing them mid-summer!).

It can be difficult to go back to a place where you were so different from who you are now.

But I want to say this.

Rest in who you are.

A visit home will not undo all of the hard work you’ve done.

A visit home will not change who you have become.

And if those you visit at home cannot accept the change, that’s okay.

You do not have to fit into someone else’s box and expectations of you.

📚 Inspiration and Resources
Every week we all consume content and I share my favorites here.

Creating.
A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across a video on Instagram that blew me away. I love music and never participated in truly organized music (like band or orchestra or something similar), but this video caught me off guard by what I see as sheer beauty. So, I found it on YouTube. Give it a watch here.

📓 Journaling Prompt
Journaling is one of the most important things to do when exploring our own lives. A new prompt for you to use this week is below.

Are there moments when you feel like all the work you’ve done on yourself is at risk?

Until next time, I wish you enough and send you off with love and a sense of urgency in your life.
