Streaks or no streaks, missing a day should not derail your growth
Welcome to Erebus Growing, a weekly email where I share little snippets of life to help you change and grow into your highest life.
These next couple of weeks will be fairly normal with less travel and feature a return to my typical schedule.
But, I’m hopeful to hear back from a couple of institutions soon regarding the on-campus visits I had.
For now, I’m off to make some crispy black bean tacos and pickled red onion for lunch this week!
👨🏻💻 Meditation
This week I spent time traveling for an on-campus visit for a new position.
It was a short trip, but possibly the best part, besides the visit which went well, was the fact that I committed to a much longer yoga practice.
And it was nice. I was able to stretch my body and move it in ways I haven’t here at home simply because I told myself I wanted short practices to build it into my life.
In the last 7 days, I’ve completed over 1 hour in sessions.
In the last 30 days, I’ve completed over 3 hours.
And in the last 90 days, I’ve completed almost 7 hours.
Why is this important?
Previously, I would have quit because it’s not perfect.
I can’t do all of the moves because my body is not used to them and because I’m a heavier person.
But I decided not to quit.
There are some sequences where I hold downward dog a little longer instead of flowing into the middle moves.
I’m learning to listen to my body while still pushing it. And I can feel it changing.
I’m practicing progress, not perfection.
The goal is to build this yoga practice as a cornerstone in my life, not to rush through to get it done.
My current streak is 49 days, today will mark 50.
I don’t intend to break it, but if I do, then I’ll just start over again and do better the next time.
The challenge with streaks is how they make you feel. If you break them, you can feel bad and get down on yourself.
But that’s why I picked the short practices; why I picked 5 minutes.
If I can’t take 5 minutes to move my body, then I know it’s because I’m choosing not to.
And I get to make that choice every day.
So, streak or no streak, I’m going to show up at my mat every single day and practice progress.
📓 Journaling Prompt
Journaling is one of the most important things to do when exploring our own lives. A new prompt for you to use this week is below.
Are you holding yourself back anyplace because you forgot to stay on track?
