⏳ Erebus Growing | 0069 - You can't attract what you're not ready for
You attract what you're ready for by becoming more you
Welcome to Erebus Growing, a weekly email where I share little snippets of life to help you change and grow into your highest life.
The busy season at the part-time starts now. The busy time at the 9-5 is coming quickly as I prepare to resign for my next position.
I’m deep in packing and planning for my two moves this summer and getting things together.
But the good news is the moves are a great positive result. The next step is coming soon and I’ll be able to share more in a few weeks.
👨🏻💻 Meditation
I have only some small hesitation about moving to a new city for a new job.
It’s been an interesting past few months as I’ve been in the midst of a job search, debating about benefits and lack thereof with moving, and coming to some large realizations.
The biggest realization is this: I’ve taken and learned and grown all I can here in my current city.
Just last night, I was in the car when I came back to an idea I think I first heard from Rob Dial.
We’re all playing different characters and we get to choose who we put on and take off.
I am someone who has always played the “introverted” character. I don’t talk to new people because I’m an introvert and it takes time to open up.
But that’s not reality.
I’ve proven that with the people I work with at the part-time.
I’ve been myself, or at least not an introvert, and they appreciate me.
Part of that has to do, I suspect, with being in a customer service position. I have to interact with others as part of my job.
The question for me becomes why can I do it for work but not my personal life?
The answer, I think, is simple. It’s because this is new knowledge and new experience for me.
It’s only been the past two to three years that I’ve focused inward on my growth.
The other piece of knowledge that’s come back to me recently is that you can’t attract what you’re not ready for.
You can’t have a high-intensity health and fitness regimen if you don’t have the mindset or haven’t built the foundation for it.
You can’t become a vegetarian or vegan if you don’t have the mindset or foundation.
You can’t find a high-quality relationship partner if you don’t have the mindset or foundation.
You have to be and become someone with those components in your life.
Why?
Because if you are looking for that life, you have to be the person who can have that life.
And right now, you aren’t.
Ten years ago, I was running 35-40 miles a week.
Generally, it was 6 miles per day at roughly 10 minutes a mile.
Just a couple of years before that I wasn’t running at all.
Life changed in those years. I kept running for a bit until the weight of my job overwhelmed me. I was young and worked more than I ever needed to.
I stopped running but threw in a couple of 10ks and a half marathon before it ended almost completely.
I went back to my non-running days.
I was healing from other things at the time.
And then my grandmother died in 2020. I spent almost a year healing from that, then I started walking again.
I started the biggest journey I’ve faced when I looked at my life and said this isn’t who I am.
Now, we’re here. I’m about to take the biggest leap of faith into a new job in a new field in a new city with absolutely no one I know around.
But I’m ready.
How do I know that?
Because my thoughts have been new—different.
I’ve looked for a dentist, a gym, and a doctor. I’m coming in with a financial plan and excitement and energy to grow.
This is the next step in becoming who and what I want to attract into my life.
This is the next step to building this life.
You do it by changing the mask.
📓 Journaling Prompt
Journaling is one of the most important things to do when exploring our own lives. A new prompt for you to use this week is below.
What masks are you wearing?
